60x60 Micasso YMP66909Y Pure Black Polished Porcelain Tile

The Micasso YMP66909Y is a 60x60 cm pure black polished porcelain floor tile with a plain, solid colour face and a mirror gloss. Micasso is Twyford's premium range, and YMP66909Y is the code you quote to get this exact tile. It costs KES 2,730 per box of 4 tiles, and one box covers 1.44 sqm, which works out at KES 1,900 per sqm. Twyford lists it as a floor tile for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways.

Pure Black Solid Colour Finish

The YMP66909Y has no veins, speckles or printed pattern. Every tile is the same deep, even black, and Twyford files it under its solid colour designs.

The polished face works like a dark mirror, so lights and furniture reflect in the floor. The only lines on a laid floor are the grout joints.

YMP66909Y Technical Specifications

The YMP66909Y specifications below come from the Twyford catalogue and the Micasso stock list.

The porcelain body has the low water absorption and hard wearing surface typical of polished porcelain. Twyford does not publish a thickness, PEI wear class or slip rating for this code, so ask our team before you specify it for a commercial floor.

Best Rooms for a Pure Black Polished Floor

The YMP66909Y suits dry indoor floors: living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways, plus showrooms, salons and reception areas.

Polished porcelain is slippery when wet. Keep this tile out of showers, wet entrances, kitchens with frequent spills and all outdoor areas.

A plain black gloss shows dust, footprints and water marks sooner than a patterned tile.

Styling a Black Gloss Floor

Pure black gives a strong base for high contrast rooms. White or light grey walls, chrome or brushed steel fittings and white furniture create a crisp monochrome look. Brick, tan leather and warm timber, as in the industrial loft style, soften the black.

YMP66909Y Compared With the YMP66564Y

The YMP66909Y and the Micasso YMP66564Y are both 60x60 polished black Micasso porcelain floor tiles, packed 4 to a box. The YMP66909Y is plain pure black at KES 2,730 per box. The YMP66564Y adds fine gold veins and white flecks to the black base and costs KES 2,520 per box. Choose the YMP66909Y for a clean, solid black floor, and the YMP66564Y when you want a marble look.

Coverage and Price per Box

One box of YMP66909Y holds 4 tiles and covers 1.44 sqm. A 4 x 5 m living room is 20 sqm. Add 10 percent for cuts and breakage and you need 22 sqm, which is 16 boxes, or KES 43,680 at KES 2,730 per box.

Installation, Grout and Care

A plain black gloss shows every lippage and uneven joint, so lay it on a flat, cured screed with a porcelain tile adhesive and a levelling clip system. Back butter each 60x60 tile so no hollow spots remain under the polished face. A narrow joint of about 2 to 3 mm is the usual choice for 60x60 polished porcelain.

Black grout gives an almost continuous black surface. White or light grey grout draws a sharp grid that suits a modern or retro checkerboard style, but light grout stains faster and needs sealing.

Order every box you need at once and check that the batch numbers match, because shade can vary between production runs.

For daily care, dust mop first, because grit dulls a polish. Mop with warm water and a pH neutral cleaner, then dry buff with a microfibre cloth to avoid streaks. Avoid acid cleaners, scouring powder and wax, and put felt pads under chair legs.
